What inspired you to make these rings?

They are the combination of my love of food (who doesn’t love food?), my love of making things and my love of unique rings! Plastic food is really popular here in Japan so when I first saw these tiny little food replicas that only the Japanese could do so well, I had an “ah-ha!” moment and combining these ideas just came to me.

How do you make these amazing creations?

It’s a Labour of Love believe me! I start by looking at the pieces I have in front me…the wood that I painted, the dishes, and the various pieces of miniature plastic food, and then I start putting them together to see what works. So, for example, if I’m making one of my ice cream or mousse rings, after filling the dish with the cream clay, I choose the candy or sweets that match both the dish and my mood at the time.

What are they made out of?

They are made from a variety of items including hand painted wood, Japanese chiyogami paper, pottery shards, cream clay and miniature plastic food pieces among other things.
