KNSTRCT.COM - “Hong Kong’s new concept store, Konzepp, is full of freakishly fun little gadgets and trinkets. To complement the stores selection, designer Geoff Tsui, co-founder of design firm 33WILL, created an angular and twisted bright yellow facade. Tsui wanted to give people passing by a small taste of what’s inside the store, and this vibrant architectural element is the perfect way to spark curiosity. Not only did Tsui design the space, he is also the co-founder of Konzepp, along with close friend Willie Chan.Inside, stark white shelves line the walls and are filled with cool design products, while slanted yellow posts press against the wall shelves and reach from the floor to the ceiling. The retail counter reflects the design of the facade – asymmetrical, angular, and yellow.  One of the most intriguing parts of the store is it’s location. The cool shop is hidden on a small alley, steps below the side street, where it’s discovery would most likely be an unintentional treat or sorts.”

WEHEART.CO.UK - “Awkwardly jarring with the dingy looking side street it inhabits, Hong Kong concept store Konzepp is an inexorably showy little affair. Its asymmetrical façade is like the result of a pixel explosion, garishly yellow, unwieldy but elegant – it’s both graceless and graceful in equal measures.Inside there’s the usual concept store mix of bleeding edge designers’ wares – hip publications, quirky objects and bits and bobs you’d never need but simply must have. Co-founded by Geoff Tsui and Willie Chan – famous for establishing the career of a certain Jackie Chan – as part of their design agency 33WILL, Konzepp also plays host to parties, events, and recently collaborated with menswear brand Moustache on an underwear collection. With its meticulously curated Asian curiosities, sublime aesthetic and media mogul clout, Konzepp looks set to grow and grow as a creative entity.”

FRAMEWEB.COMMultidisciplinary designer Geoff Tsui has converted a ‘disadvantaged’ hidden ground-level rental property into a colourful space, where creatives can cross-pollinate imaginations and hatch unique results. ‘The otherwise would-be ordinary space has been given an out-of-the box appeal,’ Tsui says. ‘We used parametric design and hand-on modelling techniques to metaphorically push and pull the boundaries of the design.’  Inspired by Japanese origami paper art, Tsui created the yellow façade from wooden geometric forms. While originally planning to work with fibreglass, an expensive rental agreement meant using the material would propel the project over budget. Instead, Tsui opted for wood cut from single pieces to reduce waste. ‘The façade needed waterproofing, so the slants of the arch would allow for water to drain downwards and not seep in and rot the structure,’ Tsui explains. Given the humidity of Hong Kong, the façade must be repainted every six to seven months.  Konzepp is a cretive studio for film production and artist management that also sells unique handmade goods.”

WEBURBANIST.COM - “Geoff Tsui, co-founder of design firm 33WILL, created the angular yellow facade that juts out from the storefront in geometric planes. Tsui wanted to complement the store’s offerings and draw in curious passersby.Tsui is in a position to know just how to go about doing that – he’s also the co-founder of Konzepp. The angular, acid-yellow look of the facade continues into the white retail space in the form of a geometric sales counter and slanting yellow beams.”

ILOVESOHO.HK - “Konzepp focuses on designed lifestyle objects and developing a communal space for artist and designers to collaborate and convene. The concept of the space is to fit what is new, relevant and on the forefront. Daring and bold merchandising, a place to learn, cultivate, and share ideas, hatch thoughts while enjoying a cup of Marriage Freres green tea with locally harvested HK Honey and Mays Cookies & Cakes. Engage in unconventional magazines & music and catch the next hatch!”

COLOURYOURDISTRICT.BLOG.HU - “Igen üde színfolt a városi szürkeségben a Hong Kongban található Konzepp. Geoff Tsui-nak a klasszikus smiley adott ihletett ehhez a külsőhöz.

ENPUNDIT.COM - “Inspired by the classic yellow ‘happy face’, the design of the new Konzepp store front in Hong Kong is definitely one-of-a-kind. Konzepp is a shop filled with unique gadgets and gifts that are much like its exterior bold and modern appearance. The ground level property was once quite hidden amongst a sea of gray, but not anymore with this eye-catching design by multi-disciplinary designer Geoff Tsui.”

MICHAELAROBINSON.WORDPRESS.COM - “I can’t put into words how much I adore the concept store by Konzepp, Hong Kong.A creative, collaborative space it is used by creatives as a meeting place where ideas and collaborations happen.Customers can shop, meet and share music and be inspired whilst relaxing with a drink. Graceful, elegant, playful, its a designers dream with its canary yellow facade inviting the viewer into the space inside it acts as a kind of gateway to the new and unknown.”

CNNGO.COM“ Canadian-born Geoff Tsui has worked as a designer in Hong Kong for more than a decade, but he has always felt something was missing from the city’s design scene.“Everything is so fast-paced, so commercial, that we wanted our own space, a cultural and communal space where people can work and just hang out,” he says. The result is Konzepp, formerly known as Hatch, which is a combination workspace, boutique, café, design incubator and party venue. On the shelves is a rotating and sharply-curated collection of products from emerging designers — “almost like an exhibition,” says Tsui — and a collection of good design books and magazines. A large communal table is well-stocked with cookies and a rotating cast of friends and strangers who come to work and share ideas.Basically, says Tsui, “it’s a space where you can just jam with us.”

SURFACEASIAMAG.COM - “When people refer to a design space, it’s usually a fancy way of saying “office”, “showroom” or “studio.” Not for Geoff Tsui and Willie Chan, who recently opened KONZEPP, a new storefront design hub in Hong Kong that is a studio, boutique, café, gallery, co-working space, design incubator and event space all at once. “Somebody called it an open-source design space and that’s pretty much exactly what it is,” says Tsui, a multidisciplinary designer who has worked for brands like Porsche and film star Jackie Chan’s design firm. “Everything in Hong Kong is so fast-paced, so commercial, that we wanted our own space, a cultural and communal space where people can work and just hang out.In other words, a place where designers can meet and hatch new ideas – a concept reflected in the space’s original name, Hatch, which had to be changed because it had already been trademarked by another design company.Chan and Tsui can be found most days sitting at KONZEPP’s large communal table, working on projects for their own company, 33Will, which does design work for local film productions. They hope to use their industry connections to hook up young designers with a network of people they can work with, like reliable manufacturers, who aren’t always easy to find. The space also sells products from emerging designers like Michael Leung, whose HK Honey project brings together local beekeepers, artists and product designers. Unlike most design boutiques, however, KONZEPP’s focus is distinctly non-commercial – it’s as much a space to test new products as it is to sell them. Tsui points to Leung’s beeswax candles as an example. He has made candles with beeswax produced by rooftop beehives, but visitors to the space have noted that they lack the fragrance of other candles. “It’s a great idea but when you have a candle, you want it to be sensual,” says Tsui. “We have a lot of people coming in who are interested in design, people like accountants and lawyers, and believe it or not they’re as creative and intuitive as some designers.” Visitors are also helping build the café’s menu, which already includes Mariage Frères tea, HK Honey and cookies from a local bakery. Local illustrator Ko Shing is drawing the menu as it develops. That ethos of open-ended collaboration is reflected in the space itself, which occupies 600 square feet in a semi-basement space on a quiet sidestreet near Blake Garden. When Tsui and Chan found it last year, it was in terrible shape, with leaky pipes and crumbling walls. Tsui transformed it into a “happy and fresh” space with a bright geometric yellow façade made with parametric design tools. During special events, the café bar becomes a DJ booth and the front window display shelves can be stuck onto a pair of bollards on the street outside, transforming them into bar tables. With little space and a constant stream of visitors, the activity inside KONZEPP often spills into the street, making it a kind of social club for the surrounding neighbourhood, whose traditional craftsmen have recently been joined by a slew of design studios and art galleries. “It’s so great to see this,” says Sirkka Hammer, who owns a contemporary jewellery gallery near KONZEPP. “We have so many creative people in the area now.”It’s something that Tsui is happy to hear. Originally from Canada, he has lived in Hong Kong for more than ten years, but always felt like he was missing the kind of creative community he was involved with in Vancouver. “I kept thinking before that I was only in Hong Kong for work,” he says. “Now, with this, I finally feel at home.”

DELOOD.COMLocated in an up and coming area off the beaten track in Hong Kong is the concept store, Konzepp. Immediately recognisable by its bright yellow origami shaped facade, the store is the brainchild of designers Geoff Tsui and Willie Chan of 33WILL design agency. The store was developed in answer to the need for a place for the creative community to exchange ideas, to develop and collaborate on projects in intimate groups. Konzepp also welcomes shoppers to browse amongst their ever changing range of products in an amicable environment so that shopping becomes a journey of discovery. The concept is to display all that is innovative in terms of merchandise and ideas, music and publications. But Konzepp is more than a curiosity shop, it is also a venue for parties, happenings and events and the pundits forecast that with its style and aesthetics, it is certainly here to stay.”

PSFK.COM -Konzepp is a concept store in Hong Kong, designed and co-founded by Geoff Tsui. It has a yellow angular facade and a yellow counter and posts inside that contrast with the stark white shelves displaying a curated collection of gadgets and products from emerging designers.Konzepp is a communal space that mixes elements of a boutique, café, workspace and events venue. A large table provides an area for people to work, collaborate and share their ideas.”

RETAILDESIGNS.BLOGSPOT.HK - “This unique store design is full of little gadgets and trinkets. Well I say that the store is located in a less attractive spot since it’s in an alley and like hidden from the major crowd. But this was the challenge of the design. Named as Konzepp Store, the designers, Geoff Tsui and Willie Chan, created a unique and an attractive store design”Tsui basic idea from making an attractive bright yellow and twisted facade is to have people’s attention when passing by the street. For the interior, the store is finished with white color scheme. White shelves at the sides and as accents yellow bars crossing in front of it. The counter at one side of the store is mimicing the exterior using a twisted design, combining yellow and white color. “

BLACKRENAISSANCE.NET - “Walking up the steep hills of Hong Kong’s Sheung Wan precinct amidst the sweltering heat, I am growing slightly impatient and weary. The soles of my shoes now scuff the sun-drenched sidewalk as I wonder how much longer I must climb. Not much longer I guess, as I see the destination at hand: a yolk-yellow geometric display of an entrance that stands out in Hong Kong’s sea of monochrome asphalt grey. As I chug through the last remaining steps and finally enter the room, I am immediately greeted by a space with eclectic pops of color and character.  Carlo Aquino, 33WILL’s Style Curator, comes and immediately receives me. Ushering me to the centre table, I sit down to an array of magazine offerings just slightly in front of me. And so our talk begins on the concept of Konzepp, an experimental lab that is redefining retail space and igniting creative collaborations.Konzepp is decidedly cosmopolitan, offering products from Korea, Singapore, Beijing, Taiwan, Malaysia, Japan amongst others. The team curates a strong selection of Asian products with the intention of supporting quality Asian products. Looking through  the products after a while and you notice that there is no unified theme in the store, no specified array of goods that appeal to one demographic segment. Rather, wine glasses stand next to locally made Hong Kong honey along with Sockcerely Yours graphic print socks and unapologetically giant candy jars. “We get a mix of customers,” Aquino tells me. This shows through with the products that blur generational, cultural and gender product preferences. Pointing at the confectionary for example, he informs me that last week treats were handed to children as their parents carefully browsed through the store. And with products that are predominantly unisex or for women at the moment, Aquino is keen to introduce more menswear to the product mix and balance it out. This hybrid retail approach extends to the rest of the shop as well. The centre piece table stands as a example of the store’s communal emphasis. Everyone, from customers, to collaborators, and the staff gather together for good old fashion dialogue: something web has failed to truly achieve and brick-and-mortar stores have mostly failed to explore. The effect is one where sales is not at the forefront of people’s minds, but rather a symptom of good storytelling that people can appreciate. What Aquino enjoys about this system is that there is dialogue between people at the table: people feed off of each other as they bounce ideas to and fro. In fact, Konzepp’s recent collaboration with Hong Kong menswear label Moustache was borne out of these. Such is the social nature of Konzepp that monthly gatherings are staple of the store: the retail counter uncovers itself to reveals hidden DJ equipment underneath. When asked how Konzepp manages to find harmony through its multidisciplinary approach, Aquino answers almost instinctively. Since everyone comes from such a diverse background there is an instinctive code of respect that each individual comes from a different place and mindset. Moreover, each team member is allowed autonomy over a share of the portfolio whilst still allowing feedback. Pleasantly enough, the wide range of products seem to gel together quite poetically. As I leave the store behind and attend to the rest of my daily duties. I stop in front of one of the many Zara stores. And peering inside I see the usual display of racks and racks of clothing. The “Welcome to Zara!” hackneyed greeting line reaches me, and retail has suddenly become boring again.”

WINETIMESHK.BLOGSPOT.HK - “Take a stroll through Soho to the end of Bridges Street, skip down the steps and you will find yourself on Tai Ping Shan Street and outside new wine and lifestyle lounge Kouch. A new “home away from home” Kouch offers some retail therapy in the confines of what feels like your own home.Sitting down with “The Wine Guy”, David Baudrie –a Frenchman, who is self-confessed wine lover, former sommelier and graduate of Les Roches International School of Hotel Management in Switzerland – we wanted to find out more about this new concept of bringing the living room down to street level to enjoy a bottle of wine.“Our idea is to consistently bring new innovation to wine tasting”, says Baudrie. “We want to create an atmosphere in the shop where people feel at home”.The place itself is relaxing and once sat down on either one of their director chairs, the sofa or one of their outdoor tables it is very hard to pry yourself back up and head to wherever it was you were going!Kouch currently offers a selection of luxury clothing goods and a selection of American and French wines that includes some champagne. They are also the official retailer of Vino Cacao, the Bordeaux wines infused with chocolate.“Each month we will introduce new wines into the shop to broaden the experience for the casual shopper”, notes Baudrie. The area itself is a new and up-coming area of Sheung Wan and in recent years, as developers have moved in to smarten up the place, rents have gone up and quality of housing and dining in the area has followed suit. Their first public tasting will take place on May 23rd and they, in conjunction with One Red Dot Fine Wines, will be introducing a selection of En Primeur Burgundy wines from Domaine Dubreuil Fontaine Pere et Fils along with some other Burgundies from Georges Ligniers. There will be finger foods and canapés and the opportunity to try the wines and purchase them for your home drinking pleasure during the event. Memberships are available to the place and offer heavy discounts on wine tastings if you are one.Kouch is owned and managed by Konzepp who in turn is owned by 33 Will; a group of creative companies that specialse in marketing, brand management, design and the art of new lifestyle living. 33 Will manage the branding accounts for Porsche and Maserati in mainland China.”

DESIGNYOUTRUST.COM - “Inspired by the classic yellow ‘happy face’, the design of the new Konzepp store front in Hong Kong is definitely one-of-a-kind.”

DESIGNCHERRY.CO.UK - “Konzepp is a great little shop located in the Sheung Wan district on Hong Kong Island. It has a boutique-y feel to it, typical of many of the small, independent retail spaces appearing in this ‘up-and-coming’ area of Hong Kong. However, there’s a distinctly more down-to-earth feel compared to some of its immediate neighbours. It’s very easy to spot the store as you approach from the lower end of the street.  Its frontage bursts out with a bright yellow, origami-looking façade that frames the shop window and entrance. The shop sells an impressive variety of home ware, accessories and related products, mostly produced by small companies or designer/makers. There were some interesting pieces ranging from nicely detailed, hand-made bookmarks by Elsie Wong, to some pretty cool smartphone accessories by Ark, and some beautiful ceramic vessels by Up in the Air Somewhere. Before visiting Konzepp, I had read that the centre of the store was dedicated to a conference table where designers could freely meet to work (sketchbooks and laptops only; this isn’t a very big table!) or discuss ideas, with no obligation to buy anything. Power, Wi-Fi and coffee are also thrown into the offer. I was a little suspicious that this apparent design utopia – a design store run by designers, for designers, etc – was mere lip service to the idea of a creative community hub which in reality was more about marketing a retail brand (cynical ol’ me…). But, sure enough, on the Sunday morning I wandered in there were three creative types, thrashing out ideas, feverishly poring over laptops and sketchbooks. I very much got the impression that the open, friendly atmosphere and welcoming staff were really conducive to this kind of activity happening all the time. On reflection, it’s hardly surprising that this concept (Konzepp?) works, in a city where living spaces are impossibly compact and office/studio rents are high, Konzepp must provide a great satellite (net)working environment, particularly for graduate designers and freelancers. Definitely worth a look if you’re ever in Hong Kong.”

DRESSMEBLOG.ME - “KONZEPP is alllllll about creativity, exploration and supporting the Asia Arts – it’s devoted to the uber chic world of modern day artists and appreciates a good street party or two!  Due to the mass flow of people who attended the ‘Organik Soul’ party, the streets themselves became drinking grounds as the population of party-goers expanded and overflowed.Card swapping, beer drinking, photo taking socializes were out on form – listening to the impressive tracks laid down by DJ ivan & allan a.k.a. High Tech Orchestra and thriving in an environment that uniquely belongs to KONZEPP.  Here in HK, where everything is highly conceptual, lights are bright and cocktails are signature – it’s a treat to be given the A.OK to drink out of plastic cups, smoke on the side-walks and literally chill out to easy beats surrounded by phlegmatic people.”

You can only find it in Konzepp and Lane Crawford Hong Kong.  Konzepp is now also carrying fragrance label Nasomatto with scents such as Black Afgano and Silver Musk and you can’t help but love the cool bottle design. In addition to the boutique’s carefully curated selection, every month Konzepp hosts “Organik Soul Party” featuring DJ’s “High Tech Orchestra”.Speaking of the vibrant yellow display ou tside the store, you might wonder about the concept behind it.Carlo explains,”It symbolises ideas and creativity. Notice there is no straight right angle, basically, when you’re creating something, you don’t get restricted to a straight line of thought. It’s kind of like saying ‘think outside the box’, except it’s saying ‘don’t think in a straight line’.” The criss-crossing of the beams symbolizes the whole collaborative concept that is the foundation of the space.”

PAUSEART.TUMBLR.COM - ”Geoff Tsui, created an angular and twisted bright yellow façade for his new “Konzepp”. Tsui wanted to give people passing by a small taste of what’s inside the store, and this vibrant architectural element is the perfect way to spark curiosity. Not only did Tsui design the space, he is also the co-founder of Konzepp, along with close friend Willie Chan.”

VERBAL-SCRIBBLES.BLOGSPOT.HK - ”Asymmetrical, angular & bright yellow.Hidden in a small alleyway that could only be accessed if you step below the side streets.PERFECT location for a store that sets the tone for hidden treasures.”

這其實是昔日金牌經理人陳自強與其生意拍檔Geoff開設的概念店Konzepp(讀音就等如英文 concept,顧名思義是一間概念店)。 “

URBANRESOLVE.TUMBLR.COM - “I love how well this small-scale piece of deconstructivism works to manipulate the path that one’s eyes follow. This storefront looks like someone crumpled up a yellow piece of paper and threw it as hard as they could onto a piece of concrete. I love it.”

WGSN-HBL.BLOGSPOT.HK - “New concept store Konzepp is designed to create a community among Hong Kong’s design aficionados. Its founders, renowned Hong Kong film producer and artist manager Willie Chan and designer Geoff Tsui, hope that the space will act as a platform for creatives to meet and showcase their products and ideas.Konzepp offers a range of lifestyle, fashion and beauty brands as well as a cafe. Tsui talked us through the interior:  “The ambience is a happy yellow tone with an interior design that turns heads and inspires. We want to cheer people up and provide a space for them to come in and chill out and chat. There will be none of the usual Hong Kong fast-paced rush when you enter Konzepp.”

HIPPIEJOURNEY.COM - “Konzepp is a store selling lifestyle products with cool design. You can find notebook, iphone case, tea-pot, clothes, sunglasses, socks….etc. The store itself is already cool enough, right? It look really like a concept store in Copenhagen.”

PROGRAMME.TVB.COM -售賣各款設計新穎獨特、創意豐富的生活精品家具。 Sheldon and Rabee’a have visited some stores in this district with stylish accessories and lifestyle goods from different parts of the worlds.”

BLOG.VMGLOBALMERCHANDISING.COM - “At the far end of Tung street the dazzling yellow façade of Konzepp store will almost certainly catch your eye. Inside is a studio, boutique, café and gallery all under one roof. Shelves on both sides of the large lower ground floor space display products from emerging designers like HK Honey candles workshop. A large communal table welcomes people who come to work and share ideas. Established by Geoff Tsui, Julie Shah and Willie Chan, Konzepp was born out of the desire to create a place in HK where the artistic and creative community could come together, share ideas and products, a cross-pollination of creative thinking. Customers are able to shop, listen to music and read magazines whilst sipping various concoctions of green teas.”

STUREPLAN.SE - “Having a concept store in Hong Kong named ‘Konzepp’ is priceless, but what they also managed to pull of is one hell of an elegant entrance to their creative collaborate space as they self would’ve said it. I’ve recently thought about lots of store displays, especially Louis Vuitton’s latest one which is very native inspired with arrows and stuff. But hats off to Konzepp, they really managed to pull that shit off.”

TIMEOUT.COM.HK - “Konzepp (formerly called Hatch33) was created as a mingling ground for likeminded designer folks. The bright yellow geometric façade leads into a concept store that peddles CDs, art mags and design-oriented knickknacks. The space also doubles as a café with a small menu of teas, cakes and cookies that guests can enjoy at the large communal table.”

12OZPROPHET.COM“Discovering Hong Kong’s concept store, Konzepp is not so different than finding a fresh new graffiti piece. It seems like the line between graffiti and design is blurred more and more each day. With it’s unique bright, angular, asymmetrical yellow facade, one could relate it’s wall presence to pieces by some of the most experimental and influential graffiti writers today like Heavy Artillery crew, the TMDees, and Scott Sueme. Or perhaps look back to pioneers like Delta and Daim, two of the first graffiti writers to look to architecture for influence and to think about, and render graffiti in three dimensional planes. Scroll down to check out more photos of this awesome store below street level in Hong Kong.”

SASSYHONGKONG.COM - “Earlier this year, I took a month long trip to Asia. I traveled back and forth between Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul looking in stores where I thought my line would be a perfect fit. When I was in Seoul, I was contacted by the Hong Kong store Konzepp, who stressed an interest in my bags and wallets. At that time, the shop was still under construction so it was great to be part of the process as they established themselves. Konzepp has been great to work with and I’m so happy that they are doing so well. I was honored that they chose to represent the entire range of Skinny Vinny products in their innovative store.”

HKTDC.COM - “Geoff Tsui literally created what he calls an “out-of-the-box” entry point for those entering his store, Konzepp. The shop, with its sculpted yellow frontage, sits alongside a smattering of other designer boutiques and galleries. It offers a tranquil spot to flick through the latest copies ofThe New Yorker, pick up a scented candle or a wearable plant necklace. In the centre of the space is a large white table, where customers are invited to boot-up their laptops and work away the hours, or simply settle with a cup of herbal tea and ruminate on the day’s events with the store’s laid-back staff. It’s a slice of hard-to-come-by tranquillity in the Hong Kong retail scene.“You have sales staff who try to reach sales targets and get commissions, a shadow sales following you around, pressuring you to buy something. Or else, you feel rushed to leave. That’s what I didn’t enjoy from Hong Kong retail,” says Mr Tsui, who comes from a design background. “The idea of Konzepp is that there’s no pressure to buy, no pressure to leave.” Already, he has been asked to replicate his concept in Beijing.”

MOISIEDARLING.WORDPRESS.COM - “Thanks to 3 Star Backer, we gathered at Konzepp, a concept design space in Sheung Wan, for a potluck including two large birds – a 25-lb turkey from Magnolia, a Cajun private kitchen in Sheung Wan (turkey pictured above), and a smaller turkey from Mandy’s Kitchen, a Caribbean private kitchen in Sai Kung.”

HANNAHGALANG.COM - “The idea of putting up a concept store is to gather people of different culture, to promote “underground” art and music, and to celebrate art and everything that goes around the concept of it. Unlike the 90′s, Concept Stores are widely seen now in some of the hippest parts of every country or city and they all come in the quirkiest ideas in designing it.This hip concept store is found in one of Hong Kong’s art district and is being patronized byartists, musicians, and the like. It’s known for hosting parties, playing great music, and its hip and creative visitors.”

FLEURHARRIS.BLOGSPOT.HK - “How good are these hand made ceramic cups?! I bought four of them in this amazing design store called Konzepp in Hong Kong. The guy working the store was divine, so helpful and friendly. Konzepp is part of theHK Honey initiative. Check it out, super cute. The cups are by Up in the air, based in Chicago. I don’t know if they’ll make it off the shelf as my cats love to smash a glass – but I couldn’t leave them behind. Grey ceramic dipped in yellow… I just want to hold them and look at them all day. xxx”

M.MIPPIN.COM - “Walk down some steps into a nondescript alleyway in Hong Kong and you might just be shocked to find this bold, visually engaging storefront standing out in a sea of gray concrete. Hong Kong’s new concept store, Konzepp, is a fun gift and gadget shop that reflects its wares with its eye-catching modern design.Geoff Tsui, co-founder of design firm 33WILL, created the angular yellow facade that juts out from the storefront in geometric planes.

JOURNALISM.HKBU.EDU.HK - “Many Hong Kong people who are branded as having always-busy lifestyle might consider shopping as merely buying the latest trends products at chain stores. But a store named Konzepp is trying to introduce a new shopping experience, which emphasizes not only on artistic products but also on interactions among shopkeepers and customers.Established by film producer Ms Willie Chan and local designer Mr Geoff Tsui, Konzepp is a lifestyle products store aiming to bring back the discovery and excitement of a shopping experience and to provide like-minded designers with an open space to share creative ideas and products.Walking up Tung Street in Sheung Wan, it was not hard for me to recognize Konzepp’s entrance, a bright yolk-yellow facade as if being “pushed” and “pulled” from different directions, which distinguished it  from adjacent to old buildings. An abstract arch of the shop’s front forms a futuristic gateway and welcomes people to the world of interesting products designed by artists from all over the globe.Stepping into the store, I was immersed into some women’s chit chat and kids’ laughter. At the centre of the store sat a large table, where mothers and their kids dressed up in Halloween dresses were having fun celebrating Halloween party with light snacks and candies served.Ms Kerensa Neale, one of the mothers, said the atmosphere was fun, exciting and full of inspiration. “I have been here almost 20 times. I love coming here, and kids love here too,” she said smilingly.Ms Neale said she usually brought along her friends and colleagues as the products sold in the store were funky and interesting that can hardly be found somewhere else.Indeed, the store is a treasury, keeping all those artistic-like “masterpieces” that make one hardly resist to the temptation.Products such as the animal toys series by Haoshi Design Studio, definitely melt my heart with their gorgeous looks. Eye-candy like Soludos shoes in bright summer colours lured me to walk them on a sandy beach.Different styles of ZIIIRO watches, whose concept has been featured on many websites such as Engadget and Yanko, are unique as clock faces have no markings but ever-changing pattern of rings indicating the time.Konzepp is not a shop merely selling cool stuff but it is driven by a goal- to build a harmonious community. Customers can shop, meet up, listen to music, read design, lifestyle and fashion magazines whilst sipping cups of tea.Mr Jack Lam, Konzepp’s general manager, said his Canadian-born boss (Geoff Tsui) felt the city was so commercial that it inspired him to launch a communal space where designers could share their works and others could come and hang around.“We just want to make the community friendlier,” Mr Lam said, adding that they were not to brag about how well they were doing.Regarding shopping, our minds seem to be clouded by sales and discounts. Gazing at the large table where kids and the staff squeezing together and having fun making handiwork, I recalled one thing that we have left behind for a long time: an interaction between customers and shops. When I was small, my family and I usually went out for shopping at weekends. But, it was not all about buying. My mum spent the whole day chatting with her tailor while my dad stayed in a Shanghai barber shop where he had his haircut. And, I loved being with the owner of a small grocery store who always gave me sweets and cakes.Since the emergence of chain stores, traditional shops and communal places where customers gather around and interact with shopkeepers have vanished.Peering inside the store, I saw the exact picture of the grocery store which I was fond of going with my parents when I was small. Mothers were chit-chatting. Kids were laughing hard while playing with the staff, who were having great time serving their customers.”

INDESIGNLIVE.ASIA - ”A mono-brand shop is all very well, but to truly sample the best from the pack nothing beats the curated, multi-brand experience of a concept store & ndash; or, as Geoff Tsui and Willie Chan of 33WILL would have it, the Konzepp store.Located on Tung Street in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong, Konzepp is hard to miss – this Tsui and Chan have ensured with their yolk-yellow shopfront.”I designed an abstract arch over the entrance which uses parametric design to push and pull the co-ordinates of the original polygon so that from the same piece of what-would-be a rectangular facade, we have an outside-of-the-box appeal. I wanted the arch to become a bridge from the outside to a world of fresh design products and intriguing discoveries,” says Tsui. The idea of Konzepp is that it would transcend being a mere point-of-sale and function as an incubator of design.

“It’s a platform to curate new designer products and help young new brands kick-start; a springboard to promote and position them in the market, ” says Tsui.Within the space, among geometric planes and cross steel bars is a DJ console installed for in-house parties, including the monthly DJ-led event At the heart of the shop sits a communal table.

“We encourage collaborative work. People can come and work at our work table, have a cup of tea, chat with different people… exciting things will pop up!”Fun results of this initiative includes a crossover collection of undergarments with moustachehongkong, a local custom tailoring and ready-to-wear label – not to mention Konzepp actually has its own beehive, which harvests!”

TUMBLR.COM – “An “egg” has hatched in the streets of Sheung Wan, literally. It could be a metaphor for Hong Kong’s new Art and Design Rennaissance or it could be a simple symbol for the hatching of new ideas, whatever the case may be a unique collaboration amongst Hong Kong’s creative elite has brought forth a space where “creativity can be encouraged” and even “cross-pollinate”, according to Geoff Tsui, one of the three co-founders of Konzepp33 shop at the top Tung Street off Hollywood Road.Go to Tung Streeet, or Sai Street, or any of the areas between Hollywood Road and the area where the Museum of Medical Sciences is located, and you can already sense a collective creative hub, a neighborhood of newly established Galleries and Design shops that blur the line between Concept and Commerce. Konzepp33 epitomizes the zeitgeist with their new shop (a broken hatched egg?) with sharp yellow forms and angles that start from the coffee bar inside and spill out beyond the shopfront and towards Tung Street outside.Konzepp33 is the brain child of renowned Hong Kong film producer Willie Chan, multidisciplinary designer and creatives designer Geoff Tsui, and Monocle Magazine Hong Kong’s Julie Shah who hails from New York and has had 15 years of experience in the Fashion Industry.  Selling everything from Homewares to Fashion from new Asian designers, the main architecture of the space is designed to not only symbolize emergent ideas, but display a continuous turnover of items and products that can change from week to week.”
